What Makes a Washing Machine Smell Bad or
Musky?
Does Your Washing Machine Smell bad? This is not the first time you will have a Washing Machine that
Smells. If you don’t get rid of the smell NOW
it will only get worse! Unfortunately, this is a common problem,
especially with Front load Washers.
Here are some Tips to help Get Rid of the that awful Smell:
1. Right after you finishing washing, you
need to remove any excess moisture. If you have a front load
washer, wipe (with a clean dry towel) around the front door seal and especially under the
flap.
2. Leave the door open/cracked when the washer is not in use until that door seal is
completely dry.
3. Run your washer empty with at least once or twice a month. Once the washer has filled up with water, add a cup of white vinegar and
then push pause for about 15 or 20 minutes. Let the vinegar
penetrate so that it is more effective. Then Resume the wash cycle (if you don’t have vinegar use lemon juice
instead).
4. Baking Soda is also an excellent kitchen product that is great for not the just the
smell, but it will remove a lot of the washer stains and detergent residues. You can scrub the tub using baking soda or add a whole pack of baking soda to an empty
hot water cycle. This will also assist you in getting
rid of some of those nasty bacteria and fungus that sometimes get in the tub and door
seals.
Just repeat these steps once or
twice a month and you should see those nasty stains and that smelly washer odor go away in no
time.
